Anyone here use Lotus Notes at work?

We use it at work for all of our databases and this thing has got to be the worst and slowest thing! It must work only 80% of the time here.

If it's slow the server is overloaded, which is VERY easy in notes considering everything is it's own DB. There is a local cache file you can delete that may increase performance. I'm thinking cache.dsk, but don't quote me, it's been a few years since I supported/ran it.

It sucks, no doubt. I guess the meetings scheduling and free time views are rather nifty, but definitely not worth the other hassles this bloated, poorly-designed app provides.

Edit: User Interface Hall of Shame - Lotus Notes

Used it at my last job but not at my current one. We do use it for a couple database type things but that's it.

It sucks.

Yep.

Actually, the email and scheduling parts aren't bad, but doing db's in it is horrible. Unfortunately, we have all kinds of corporate crap (Performance Committment Plans, Employee Development Plans, etc.) implemented as lotus notes databases.

I'm trying to wein that last 2 users off of it, because it sucks so bad. I set them up with Office 2003, and they still think that Lotus is soooo much better.

Yeah, used it at my last job.

Some very useful features, but the UI is just plain awkward.

One of those apps you need to read the manuals for, otherwise simple tasks can be a challenge.

The worst part for me is that it's constantly down or just flat out doesn't work. Then our admin sucks really bad too. You call her or send emails to report an issue and this chick just blows it off. Probably also doesn't help that this application is used by 6000-8000 people.

We use it and it absolutley blows. Its just clunky and awkward to use. Its an app that actually makes me miss Outlook.

Here at Duke Energy we use both Outlook and Lotus Notes... Both seem to work very well, and I dont know that any one piece of software has more issues than the other... I personally only use Outlook, but a lot of people prefer Notes as well...

I used it a while back at a previous job. We used it for mail and interoffice contact info only. They found in testing that the db side of things wasn't efficient enough and ended up running all of those programs off SQL dbs on real servers.

Notes sucks, crashes once a week. Slow and ridiculously designed.

Die Lotus Notes.

At least it only crashes once a week there. Here....seems like every other day. This morning, I couldn't access any database for 3 hours.

it works about 99% of the time here, but it's slow as molasses comparatively speaking. It's also more secure. I know that end-users like us don't care about that, but still, it's give and take.
