I've been using a usenet app called Grabit to get binaries. Most of the files I dl are in winrar format which require extraction. Grabit does the extraction automatically once all of the parts have completed downloading, my problem is I need to find out where Grabit sends these files once the extraction is completed. I looked in recycle bin but did'nt see the missing files, I'm hoping the files are still on the system (its 15 gigs of data and I really don't want to have to dl all of that again). Any suggestions?

I use it but it's not on the PC I'm on right now. It's possible it's under Documents and Settings (drill down under current user). Do you know any of the file names so that you can search for them? Also check the options because I think it shows you the current download folder (I think it does).

It was somewhere under the Program Files/Grabit folder but I recall having trouble with that app in Vista. Because it was putting files under "Program Files", Vista decided to move them somewhere else. I don't recall exactly where or how I fixed it but I do remember it pissing me off :) I never had any problems with XP or Win2K.

Did you look in your Download folder? There should be a Grabit folder there unless you changed it.

I ended up re-downloading all of the files again. I scoured the drive trying to find the files, I could'nt even locate them using a file restoral (undelete) program. So I just gave up and started from scratch. However the second time I disabled the option to have grabit extract the data.

Also I reread my post and I realize I worded it a bit oddly. I know where the files are going once they are downloaded, but what Grabit does at times is automatically extract data from rar and zip files. It then takes the original rar/zip files and deletes them, but in my case the extracted data was corrupted and I could'nt find the originals to redo the extraction. At any rate I got the files again and I'm fine now.

Just to let you know by default it all goes to the download folder. There is a option you can select for it not to remove files after extraction
