What lead do you use? I'm looking for 4b 0.5mm which is pretty dark but I hear it's rather soft. I just ordered about ten packs of these and about five packs of the 3b. Anyone familiar with this type of lead and how dark/easy to break is it?

I use a 0.7mm Pilot Shaker.. not sure if it is available here in the states or if it is marketed in a different name. I love pilot's leads too. Dark and smooth except that it smudges sometimes.

HB 0.5mm -- it's decent. 0.7mm is thicker (and harder) to break, but I don't break 0.5mm pieces of lead (often. it happens, but VERY rarely)

Yes I go through about 2 of those cheap BIC 0.7mm mechanical pencils/week. I destroy the erasors fiddling with them and of course erasing. Electrical and Computer Engineering will do that to you I suppose... lol. Darn diff eq.

Haha. With all the stuff in Physics, I've learned quickly that it's much better to buy an eraser instead of relying on the one on top of a pencil. Very quickly.

SIgh...DEs. My PDE/Fourier analysis/Complex analysis final is soon :(

I write everything in ink & if a mistake is made simply put a line through it.

Yeah, I always buy big erasers, Staedtler white or Japanese white ones. No pink erasers...they suck...

Good luck! Are you allowed to use a supercomputer? lol.

Some may have misunderstood here, I mostly destroy the erasor with my fingers picking it out and stuffing back into the pencil... lol
