Anyone here use a KVM switch and play games?

I'm looking for a good kvm switch that I can use with my linux box and windows box.
I have the linksys one (PS2KVM2 I believe) and it works ok but there is one major complaint. It uses the control key as it's hotkey and therefore, to use Ctrl or Shift, I have to hold the key down for at least 2-3 seconds before it "registers"
This can be a pain especially when playing FPS games 🙂 I don't need sound but USB is necessary.
Can anyone recommend a KVM switch that doesn't have the "delay" problem?

TIA!

i had the same issue so i got an iogear 4 port that i have to hole down ctl-alt shift and a number key to switch.

I've got a 2-port Belkin KVM that uses ScrollLock, ScrollLock, up (or down) arrow. Video switches immediately, but it sometimes takes a second for the mouse and keyboard to activate. Very nice, and I got it for $20ish including cables!

Yep, great unit. You do NOT have to use the hotkey though. There's a button on mine to switch.

Thanks for all the responses guy. I'd prefer a hotkey if it's available since the unit will be sitting on the floor behind my 2nd pc.

Hmm, I have this one, but it doesn't have USB. 🙁 I just use one of those converters.

Yep, you are correct. The one you linked in your previous post is the one I have. Mine sits behind my desk (it looks like an octopus with all the cables attached to four sides!) so I have to use the hot key combination. I also use a USB converter - works like a charm!

Edit: It's $24.88 plus shipping from J&R Computer World through Amazon.

I have a friend who uses this KVM from IOGEAR http://www.iogear.com/main.php...oduct&amp;Item=GCS1714">Link</a>. He claimed that there was not any lag from switching and that the hot keys can be programmed. He has had this switch for about a week and he uses it to switch between his Linux and Windows box.

Hope this helps.

i agree

and nice name

(i am a husky as well 🙂 - live on campus?)

Not anymore...I graduated, so I guess I am now a productive part of society. Not saying I miss school but I sure do miss spring/summer time at the quad and near the fountain when the frat girls are tanning.

I have a cheapo generic one that uses scroll lock - scroll lock - <port number> - enter to change between ports, practically instantaneous, no mouse or kb lag at all.

Which brand is it? Does it have USB by any chance? 🙂
