Anyone here use a glass desk, how is it and where did you buy it?

I went over this guy's house who got one from officemax I believe it was, it had an "L shape" to it, and it looked of subpar quality and design. Does anyone have one and where did you get it?

All you need is a good looking base and some dude to cut the glass to spec.

I'd say 1/2" glass is good enough, but you'd need some support under the monitor(s) if they're CRT.

The generic office store glass desks are crap.

I like glass surfaces, but you definitely want at least 1/2" thick glass. Also be aware that something like that weighs a ton. My coffee table is 1/2" glass, and it's about 40" round and the top alone must way.. hmm.. 50-60 lbs?

The problem with glass desks is that they don't hide ANYTHING. So all your wires, etc, etc will be all over the place. Also, while they're very easy to clean (windex, duh) they are difficult to avoid getting dirty. For instance, I place glasses etc all over my regular desk and clean it maybe once a month. On my glass tables, every time I set a glass down is another condesation-residue-ring that I'll have to clean up later. So I guess overall.... not sure if it's the best idea. But they can look very nice.

My biggest problem with glass is that I must have one of the greasiest bodies in the world, since everytime I touch the surface I must constantly clean it. Other wise it just gets all gouped up and just plain gross... But here is what I did that worked for me. I just 1" clear acryllic with one side polished, wood blocks attach it to the cinderblock legs and all is well... less then 100 bucks. (the acryllic was like 90 bucks to have it measued and cut and polished, and the rest was <10.)

I bought a glass top desk from Office Depot last year. I really like it. The glass is frosted, so dirt doesn't show up right away. It's attractive, durable and easy to clean.

we have these in office and people hate them...
optical mouse dun work, and people can see your crotch...and
they creak scary when u put heavy stuff...

*what i do under my desk is secret and i dun want peeople peeping...

I had an 18"x50" 5/8" thick glass slab that I got from Pier 1 on top of 2 heavy stone pillars for my puter table for a while. It looked really nice with my LCD and I had lots of positive comments on it. Total cost was less than $100 and you could still always use it for other purposes as well.
