When I got my HD cable box for my comcast service, the remote they gave me did not have the record button on it or anything. I don't have digital cable, which is why I think I received this "basic" remote. It didn't have any on demand controls or any DVR controls.

However, my remote broke and I never went to get a new one. Yesterday at a friends house he had an extra remote, and it had the on demand control on it, as well as the record button. I took it home, and low and behold, I push the record button, and it said it was now recording the program on the TV.

However, I am not sure how to go back and view it. Nothing happens when I click on the "My DVR" button on the remote. So does anyone w/the comcast DVR know what I need to do in order to view what it recorded?

you actually need to get a DVR box, it's different than the regulard HD box. I've had both... although I'm not sure why it is telling you that it is recording. Can you rewind live TV?

No I tried. I also have another friend who's parents have the same exact cable box as me and they use the DVR function of it all the time.

maybe I need to activate it somehow? because yea, it actually says on the screen "Now recording" and has the red do tthere, and if I go to the guide menu, and select the current channel, you see the red dot there as well.

Both the DVR and HD box look identical almost on the outside. On any of the digital boxes if you press record it will say now recording. If you had the DVR box it would allow you to enter the DVR menue.

Ah okay ... well that makes sense then :)

How much extra is the DVR monthly?

The boxes look identical but that doesn't mean you have the DVR service on your account. My uncle has the HD box which looks identical to my DVR box, yet he can't record anything.

Price of adding digital service + $10 for each box.

My digital box does the same thing. The system receives the record request and tries to process it, including stating it's recording. It just doesn't tell you it has nothing to record to and isn't actually recording anything. Software bug, I guess.

EDIT: Heh, got beat a couple times there.

If you get the HD DVR you may get the Motorola 6412 (should be phase III) or the newer box which is something like 3412 (don't recall exactly). The newer boxes 6412 and newer have HDMI connections and supposedly better SD reception.

can always check the front of your box, it will say which one you have, and monthly fee for dvr is 10.

Not nearly as sexy or user friendly but it's all I have for HD recording. You can still do season passes and it has 2 tuners so you can watch and record different shows at the same time.

HD takes up a lot of room so you can really only get 12 - 16 hours of HD programming on the box. It would be nice if they put a 300GB drive in there.

In 2009 when Tivo comes out with an HD box, I may get one.
