Anyone? I've decided it's time to learn how to defend myself and get in shape. Let me know if you're into any type of martial arts. I've tried Karate, and to my dismay, it SUCKS. I'm not saying all Karate forms are useless, but just the one I went to, sucked. I plan to take some form of Jiu Jitsu, because it seems effective when I watch the Ultimate Fights and what not. Imagine if you didn't even know any Jiu Jitsu and Kimo, or Gracie just pulled some moves on you? HAHA, sounds like fun. Let me know if you are into any martial arts, and how is it? How is the workout? I'm out of shape so I'm not looking for a thing where they wear me out really fast. I just want to do a slight workout, learn some basic self defense.

I had a year of a Karate - JiuJitsu blend. It rocked. I was in school in Idaho and the techer was this big fat guy that could kick serious ass. He had a no nonsense teaching approach that went something like this:

1)never be the aggressor.
2)No tournaments.
3)Practice
4)Practice
5) if someone is willing to make the frst move to harm you, take them down. He said you are playing by their rules, and if trained will win.

when I came back to Illinois, I wanted to continue lessons of some sort. BUT after interviewing and trying out all the dojo' in this area, I gave up. They didn't want anypart of a student with the mindset I had been taught. One guy told me to leave his studio.

Oh, and being in good shape is a must. You will hurt your joints if you are not fexible enough.
