I can't sleep and its pissing me off. I went to bed at 11:30 yesterday and didn't fall asleep until after 4. I've tried everything else and I'm considering seeing a doctor and getting some pills.

Have any of you tried these perscriptions? How well do they work? What side effects with them did you experience?

I have used Ambien and it definitely works but I always felt a bit out of it the next day.

You might want to try Nyquil. I got pissed one time for not being able to sleep (had a head cold). I took 2 cap fulls, and I figured I would sit around for 5-10min. before heading upstairs ro go to sleep. After 5min. I felt it start to kick in. The next morning, I woke up sleeping on the bottom step... I never made it up the steps to bed :) That stuff is powarful!

I've never been prescribed either drug, but both my father and Fiancée have had both. Ambien is habit forming, no matter what anyone tells you. It is not meant to be used to long periods of time... My girl friend was up to 2.5 of her normal dosage before they were affective. My father has a stupid sleep schedule dictated by his work (railroad), and needs the pills to help fall asleep at 3 in the afternoon one day, and 12 the next... Both have said that the Ambien left them groggy the next day. Lunesta... My girl has been taking this for <2 months, and my father for 3 months.... Dad likes it better.. but doesn't take it UNLESS he has to fall asleep fast. The girl has been ramping up her dosage... now at 1.5 pills from the initial 1....
My dad is also on a CPAP for his sleep apnea (SP).... His cpap helps him fall asleep, and sleep better when he has "time" to fall asleep.

I would recommend having a sleep study done before getting any prescriptions.... being a slave to prescriptions is scary....I hope you find something that works

You should only take Ambien/Lunestra if you can get a full night (read 8-9 hours) of sleep. My mom takes Ambien because she has trouble sleeping, and whenever she gets up too early (say, 7 hours) it throws her off all day.

it's lunesta, not lunestra. :p

i've taken it. it sucks though; it makes you groggy the next day. i stopped taking it for that very reason.

i've tried some over the counter remedies that i feel are much better. hyland's calm's forte is one that i've used in the past and have no complaints with. i actually got it for free from ordering through drugstore.com a few months ago, and i was pretty satisfied.

I've taken Ambien, it worked absolutely amazingly. It was like magic, how I just passed out. However, I believe you're not supposed to use Ambien for more than 2 weeks in a row, but Lunesta is approved for long-term use.

I have been taking Lunesta for approx. 45 days. It is the bomb. I have had no side effects and it is not supposed to be habit forming. And it hasn't been for me on the odd occasion that I don't take it. It doesn't cure the problem, but the difference between suffering from the lack of sleep to a good nights sleep is worth the money.
I do feel more tired the next evening, but not during the day.
Good luck, you will be amazed at how a good nights sleep will improve your life.

Drink a couple liters of JD in conjunction with an ounce of kick ass weed and that will put the lights out!

I've taken Ambien. Works great, felt fine the next morning. Just don't do anything you're hoping to remember later within an hour or so of going to bed. I had problems with amnesia. In fact there's a warning in the packaging about not using it on airline flights - apparently there have been some seriously freaked out people who woke up and didn't know where they were or why :p

Insomniac here too ....
Never took those.
Usually a couple of benedryls will help enough so that I can fall asleep.

Be careful should you get a prescription for Ambien, as it is habit forming, and there are lots of adicts out there.
Dunno about Lunestra ...
