I was curious about whether or not people here read either PC world or PC mag. If you had to choose which magazine to subscribe to, which one would you subscribe to? No I don't work for these companies, lol.

while i don't subscribe to either, i do read those sites every once in a while. i did buy the magazines a couple of times but quickly realized, that for the money you pay for the magazine, you actually get more ads then if you read the exact same article freely online.

so what's the point of doing so?

PC World is by far the better of the two IMO, but I wouldn't bother subscribing to either one ... try CPU magazine or maybe Maximum PC instead.

I currently sub to PC mag, but it was free. They really should change the name, because it hardly deals with the PC. I have 2 issues left, and I won't be renewing.

I need bathroom reading though, and plan to get Maximum PC. You should pick up the latest issue, and see what you think.

I borrow them from the library, plus CPU magazine.

Subscribe to Maximum PC, not sure If I'll renew this Oct.

I have a stack of 1993-1995 PC World/Mag that I keep in the bathroom for reading.

Sometimes they'll have a useful article about basic programming.

No subscription, it's like 75% ads anyway.

I have subscribed to both for as long as I can remember. They are actually the only two magazine subscriptions I have.

I do get most of my computer information from the internet, but sometimes, I will be in a place where I do not have internet access but need reading material (in a court house, in other law offices, restrooms). I carry them in my briefcase for such occasions.

I used to get PC Magazine.. and while I was in school MacWorld (we used alot of Mac's while in school).

Once they started publishing everything on line for free... I stopped subscribing.

I get PC Magazine and Computer Shopper. Both were freebies and that's pretty close to what they're worth. If I don't find free renewals before they run out I'll just let them lapse.

Same here, I get PC Mag and Computer Shopper free. Good reading material while I'm on the throne.

I think I still get PC Mag (free). I think I've had PC World in the past (again, free)...along with 'Games for Windows' and 'Electronic Gaming Monthly'. I rarely read them, though...I have a few new ones that I haven't even opened yet.

i get PC Mag for free. but they're kind of useless IMO. they try to cater to everyone, either a n00b, ur businessman dad, ur tech-savvy grandmom, your game playing kid brother, your geeky friend, the mac-happy hippie, and the mom with a kitchen PC thats mainly used for downloading recipes

I got the free subscription to PC Mag that was in the Hot Deals thread about 8 months ago or so... Crap magazine I must say. On the cover they'll advertise "In depth reviews on superfast wireless", which turns out to be a tiny 2 page article. PC World is much much better if you had to pick between the two.

PC Mag started sending me free mags. I read a few of them, but they sucked so now I just throw them away.

I got a gift subscription to MaxPC and... some other PC magazine. MaxPC is definitely my favorite of any magazine I've read, though I think that its quality has gone downhill lately.

through complimentary credit subs and offers, i had free subscriptions to both PC Mag and PC World for a couple of years. if i had to pick one or the other, i'd say to get PC Mag. the writing in PC Mag is much better and i also feel it's more geared towards businesses/business users while PC World feels more of a consumer mag. honestly though, i wouldn't pay for either of them when content in print material is often behind what can be found online for free. however, i really did like the Backspace column of PC Mag and who doesn't like John Dvorak, jk :)
