I've been thinking about trying the shaved look for a while now and finally did it yesterday. Feels kind of weird, it's gonna take some getting used to. Plus, my scalp is kinda pasty white at the moment so I sort of have the "cancer patient" look going on until it tans a bit. :| Thinking about growing out a beard also to see how that looks.

How often do you guys shave? Use anything on your head after you shave?

Fuck no. I have a (relatively) full head of hair. It might be gray, but it's still hair. :p

Been there, done that. Even with my rapidly-thinning hair, I prefer a cut with a #4 or so on top (#2 on sides.)

I shave every two weeks with a Wahl Balding Clipper. I don't use anything on my head after I shave.

I "shave" with clippers using a 000 or 0.5mm blade. Do it twice a week and HATE how long it is after day 2 of shaving. I can't wait to shave it on day 3 nowadays. The annoying thing is that shaving takes about a good 40 minutes (10 min to shave, 10 min to clean up, 10-20min to shower).

Do get a hat for outside. I'm a baldy and while my hairline was receding and I was in denial, the front part of my scalp got roasted. No sun burn, but very tan compared to the face and semi-haired top. Remember that the sun hits the scalp at close to 90 degrees most of the day (e..g when it's high, and when you're tilting your head down to avoid being blinded when it's low).

This, except once a week.

If you are going to use clippers just buy the Oster Classic 76 the first time, and save yourself some headaches, and money. You'll thank me later.

Agree for the most part...

I have both the Oster Fast Feed and Classic 76 clippers. The 76s are way more powerful, cut closer, faster, and thorughly. They are, however, higher maintenance with regular greasing AND lubing required, not including blade lube. They also use air-cooling so you get ozone contaminated air (carbon brushes) blown in your fast while it's on. I've tried to sell them a few times on Craigslist, then changed my mind each time - got a lowball offer once. I'm liking them right now...

The clipper set that's piqued my fancy lately is this:

Andis BGRC is suppose to be as good/better than the 76s. Lower maintenance, but less mature and I've seen more complaints online about reliability.

I keep it buzzed, but not shaved. I have a full head of hair with no loss at all, but I just hate having to deal with hair.

In the past I've shaved it with a razor - too much work.

You have to have the right face structure to shave your head. If you don't have a strong jaw, your head will end up looking like a giant thumb. A hair stylist can tell you if shaving vs. a short cut will look better on you.

If it's that much trouble and you're keeping it that short why not shave with a razor every 3-4 days? Even as a "novice" head shaver it only takes me maybe 5-8 minutes.

I still don't know if I'm going to lose my hair or not. I'm 20, and from family I see that I could lose all of my hair or just get some receding hairline, which to me isn't a problem at all. What I hate is thinning hair on top. I'd do a buzzcut to hide that.

I shave my head, about once per week. It only felt weird the first time. Now if I let it grow out for more than a week I feel scruffy and dirty and just want to shave it again asap.

I shave my head once a week with a $20 pair of clippers & have to buy a new one about every 2 -3 years. Almost 3 years on the current one. Does a good job.

I shave every other day basically. I always do it in the shower too after showering so the hair is fairly soft and easy to shave.

started going bald in my early 20's and I've been keeping my head shaved ever since... it's mostly just a $20/month expense at the barber shop (plus an astringent like Sea Breeze twice/day to keep the shine away)

I shave my head twice a week using a simple razor. If you're using clippers you're being a pussy. Commit to the cause.

I use a standard razor with Edge shaving goop (the one with the orange cap). When I'm done I use a little balm. Keeps the skin supple and never gets irritated. I've been doing this for about 7 years now.

I'd like to learn to use a straight edge with shaving soap some time, but it's pretty time consuming even if you're skilled.

I shaved my head for a few months, but decided it's more of a PITA than it's worth. Better just to get a decent clipper with a fine blade.

Regarding a beard: In my experience, it less maintenance than always staying clean shaven... but not by a large amount. You still have to shave your neck and keep it shaped with a blade. Plus trimming it to length. For me, that's every couple days. YMMV

I used to have real long girly faggy hair. It is high maintenance. And annoying.
Shaved it all off about 4 years ago & have kept a shaved head since. Once every week or 2 is about good enough.
I don't miss my long girly faggy hair at all.
