Who knew pregnant teenagers could be so funny and interesting.

There are many people that complained about the dialogue being unrealistic, but I'm not so sure about that, and I think it actually added to the quirkyness and appeal of Juno and her family.

Any thoughts or comments?

I saw it recently and liked it too. I wonder what we should call this new generation of films (Superbad, Knocked Up, Juno, etc) where the kids are "ordinary" (ie socially awkawrd, not conventionally attractive) and speak to each other in very unconvincing dialog. Sure I understand everything they are saying but nobody I know, young or old, speaks that way. It's like they are giving pre-written speeches to each other.

Good question. In a way it reminded me of Gilmore Girls' dialogue with slightly less frenetic pacing. I probably should not be admitting I watched Gilmore Girls, but whatever.

They call it "slice of life" in the anime world, except the dialogue isn't as ... quirky as these recent films.

Juno was really good though, and the dialogue... it annoyed me the first 5 minutes or so but then I think it went back to more conventional english. The first couple minutes I do remember grimacing a little at the phrases being tossed around.

Agreed. When they were on the phone, they were throwing out teenage catch phrases like Pam Anderson throws out husbands. I didn't even know what they were saying half the time.

Fortunately it settled down after that initial phone conversation.

Ugh, I was interested in seeing Juno, but I really, really cannot stand the unnatural-ness of the dialog in Gilmore Girls (note, to keep my man card, I only saw it because it was on after Sabrina, which my sister watched and I came home as it was on). Is it really as bad as Gilmore Girls?

Oh and referring to a post further down than the previously quoted, yus the daughter is quite hot :p.

It is less neurotic than Gilmore Girls, but there are the quick-witted dialogue and pop culture references that are somewhat similar.

It's worth a watch in my opinion.

Well, I have no problem with quick-witted dialog, but Gilmore Girls seemed so unnatural in how they conversed that it drove me bonkers.

The problem with GG's dialogue, in my opinion, was not the fact that they said what they said, but it was how they said it, which was at lightning speed, barely letting one person finish before the other started. Juno is not like that.

You could call them Tarantino comedies. Although I think Tarantino's dialogue is much more ludicrously contrived than Suberbad's or Knocked Up, it still gets the point across.

I never had a problem with the dialogue, infact I liked it a lot cause people usually talk to slow in other movies. Have to admit I usually watch with caption though so I don't miss anything. I mean I don't watch this crap (all truth for last 2 seasons);).

Ellen Page seems to act a bit too 'quircky'. Also, IIRC she's 20 and looks like a 12 year old which is weird.

How is the dialog unrealistic and/or unconventional? It's not much different from how a lot of my friends talk haha.

Ellen page is 20 BTW, or something close to that (shes got an '87 birthday). Funny how she portrays someone 3/4 years younger than her.
