I'm looking into building a box for various things, mostly web hosting and mail and probably run DNS on it, and am going to run some flavor of *nix on it. It's a toss up between Solaris 8, FreeBSD, and maybe (but probably not) Linux. I've used FreeBSD for a while now on various staff machines at my work, but we don't have any Solaris boxes, and I haven't used Solaris since college (wich was running 2.5). Anyone got any input on it? Good, bad, or the ease of installation (according to sun they have a new wizard, I've heard older versions were a pia to install).

Thanks:)

I have Solaris 8 on a testing machine, I havent really had a chance to play around with it as much as I wish, but the install went through with ease. I am really impressed with the install process and all of the hardware it supports. Good job SUN.

Won't install on i810.

I installed it on a 440BX box, but quickly deleted it because the drive space was needed elsewhere. Seemed OK tho.

Sun has forums here.
