Anyone here running a Zippy PSU ?

The specs look OK on the PSU you linked (although vast overkill for any system currently out there), but I've never heard of them. They may be new, or a company that sells mainly overseas...

Thanks but I am not looking for advice on what is enough power or not. I have an enthusaist's rig and there is no such thing as overkill.

Zippy has been around for quite awhile from what I gather.

Dual Opteron 250s with a 6800Ultra SLI wouldn't even need 500W of power. Unless you have a very high-end SLI system and are *massively* overclocking and overvolting your CPU and videocard, or you are running a massive server, there is no way you could possibly get anywhere near a 600W load. You are correct in that you did not ask for this advice, but IMHO, there are much better ways to spend $250.

Like I said, I haven't heard of them (which usually, but not always, means their products are junk 😛). It is entirely possible they have only recently started selling PSUs in the US, or that they have been selling PSUs under another name in the US previously, or that these 500+W models are new products.

probably you have not hear of the Zippy/emacs psu becasue they are server class ps. Over at xrtremesystems thare was a guy that changed from an Enermax 660 watt to the zippy 700w and his oc wnet from 3.2 to 3.4 gigs on an FX 55 🙂 I ordered one of the 460 watt ones for $59 and i should get it on Friday. I will be going from an Enenrmax 550 to this Zippy. I hope I can get a better oc 🙂

Yeah , those are the kinds of things I have been hearing about Zippy. Too bad I missed out on that $49 Zippy..it would have been a nice introduction to Zippy without having to shell out too much..oh well.

At work we just ordered 2 new servers and i believe the cases and powersupply were both from zippy. Not sure on the specs of the PSU but it's heavy(we're talking 50+ lbs) and plenty powerful. The cases(model RM21400) are really nice for 2U. I believe we will be running dual opteron processors(one in each for now, and then upgrading to 2 in each later when funding gets sorted out).

It's only been sitting in my office for a couple of hours and from what i see, i'm impressed. nothing wrong with Zippy. Great quality from what I can see.

Newegg has the 500watt zippy for $117 (which has the same specs as the 460w one). I was not able to get it when they were $49 but still $59 is a sweet price. The only reason I got it is because it was cheap and I have read really good stuff about them for oc 🙂

I used Zippy and Fortron on all my dual cpu builds at a former job site and I never had any go out other than the POS Compaq proprietary ones.
The 24 pin Zippys will give you strong forearms though. LOL.
If I you put on in your trunk you can use it as a club for any would be mugger. LOL.

Zippy is an excellent choice for overclockers wanting to run high voltages without spiking.

Man that 46 amps on the 12v line is just sick🙂 I like.

When you look at the list of recommended PSUs for Tyan's duallie mobos, one or more Zippies are always there while there are almost none from many of the "enthusiast preferred" brands - probably because Zippy specializes in server-grade units.
.bh.

The one I am looking at is $184 but with a 12V1@26A and +12V2@20A with a max of 40A on the 12V ..seems like quite a bargain to me. The 700Watter is around $140 more.

yes, it is a pretty good power supply for $180. i doubt you would have any problems/complaints about it 🙂 but seems you will be one of the first to give it a try so if you buy it please let us know how did you like it 🙂
