I replaced my laptop CPU for an i7 2620m a couple of months ago and repasted the CPU and GPU while I was at it.
A few days ago I helped a friend take apart his laptop because the fan stopped spinning and it was constantly overheating, managed to fix the fan and repasted his CPU and GPU while I was at it.
Both times I used some isopropanol and kitchen towel to remove the majority of the OEM paste and a small screwdriver for any stubborn bits not on the die.
