I remeber quite well, they declared bankruptcy, fired all their employees via voicemail. did not pay quite a few medical claims. Left many people without anything.

They did this by cooking the books, and when it came time to present the books for inspection, they suddenly could not find them.

My mother in law, father in law, and sister in law all worked there.

We recieved an email to call the 800 number for important news. It was a recording from a secretary that all 5 thousand employees would be laid off
from December 2000 on f'edcompany.com (of course "f" is spelled out in the URL).

Well, they "eventually" got other jobs. but it took them a long time to find them. A lot of other people were in the same boat. out of work, medical bills piling up, no access to 401k, IRS froze access to that. This was the beginning of what Enron would eventually pull.
