I'm about halfway through the second book in the 4 part series and it just seems to keep getting better with every page. The last series that really drew me in was GRRM's "Fire and Ice" and while I don't think Williams is quite as good as Martin I have to admit that I'm really engrossed in his Otherland books. In fact at the pace I'm going I'll probably finish the last couple of books before the month is out.

So for you guys who've the Otherland series:

What's your thoughts on the books?
Is this series Tad's best work?
What other scifi have you read that's equal to or better than the Otherland series?
What scifi are you reading right now?

Haven't read him yet, but some other series I highly recommend:

Gene Wolfe, The Book of the New Sun
Lian Hearn, Tales of the Otori
Steven Erikson, A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen
David Eddings, The Dreamers and The Belgaraid
Robin Hobb, The Farseer and The Tawny Man Trilogy (2 Distinct trilogies, but the Tawny Man trilogy continues where the Farseer left off)

In all honesty, the Farseer/Tawny Man trilogy has been by far my favorite Fantasy series ever. And that includes GRRM A Song of Ice and Fire series.

I got bogged down in the middle of the third book. It got too episodic for me and didn't feel like it was going anywhere. I got bored with the whole "oh no, we have to get out of this crazy world! Run away! *enter new world* *repeat*"

There's plenty of sci-fi on par or better. Check out Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash & William Gibson's Neuromancer.

I really like that aspect about the series. It's kinda cool to see what environment is around the next corner, I just read the part where some of the characters were travelling through the twisted version of Oz. Really cool writing!

I started reading this series a few months back and I liked the beginning but I kinda got distracted with other things and never finished it.
Lian Hearn, Tales of the Otori

Never heard of this book or author, I'll look it up on Amazon

Steven Erikson, A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen

I have the first few books of this series on my shelf, I'm waiting til another book or two is completed before I start reading it.

David Eddings, The Dreamers and The Belgaraid

I've heard about those books but never read them yet

Robin Hobb, The Farseer and The Tawny Man Trilogy (2 Distinct trilogies, but the Tawny Man trilogy continues where the Farseer left off)

I read the first series (Farseer) and like the initial 2 books but the 3rd one was a bit cliched in my opinion. But then again I read these right after I read Martin which kind of raised the bar on my fantasy coices.
