My cousin gave me his 100lb Everlast heavy bag today. I plan to work the heavy bag like what, for say thirty minutes a day? Is that a decent amount of cardio to get my heart pumping?

for cardio? why don't you run instead? i bet it's 5x effort/time efficient.

Like anything else it really depends on how you hit it. If you just stand there and punch it while standing still for a few shots a min you won't do a thing. Maybe find a boxing workout and try to follow that. You will probably be surprised how much of a workout it is when you really are moving and nailing the bag for awhile.
