I recently got my HTPC setup and I'm trying to play HiDef content (movies, TV episodes) but on occasion some of the clips tend to stutter or freeze. Is there a way to prevent this? What apps do you use to play HiDef content?

HD Clips stuttering has nothing to do with the viewer used. Do you actually think that's the case? It's your computer. Get a faster processor and more memory.

It very well might. I could play small clips of 1080i and 720p fine with VLC, but couldn't play large clips of 720p until I installed a new codec and used Windows Media Player Classic.

also, hardware support is crucial for some of the heavy-duty stuff.

finally, if you are still using CPU power alone, there are more efficient decoders , such as Core AVC for AVC media.
