Just started to play this game again and wanted to say that it's awesome:

I'm currently playing through Reign of Chaos single player before I do the whole battle.net thing again. I lost my original Frozen Throne CD Key. If anyone can direct me to where I can buy the CD Key for cheap, or has one handy to share so I can play on battle.net, or has one for sale for cheap, please let me know (PM) TIA

Also, who's excited for Starcraft 2!?!? When this game comes out, it'll be a national Korean holiday

Ive actually never played the game, but I hear good things..... never seen a steam deal for it. How much does it run with the expansions and all?

played tons of wc3 the first few years it came out. Played mostly competitively with a clan. Never touched the single player lol. Watch demos/replays of pros to understand how to play online

It's a blizzard game so you'll never see it on steam, the battlechest is pretty pricey still at 40$, but I think you can find it on sale sometimes for less. It was an awesome game though, I used to play it online a tone with friends.

Warcraft 3 was awesome back in the day, but I haven't played it for years.

You need to have good micro skills in order to compete at any decent level online. Lose your heroes and you lose the match, pretty much.

I actually liked Warcraft II better than 3. Blizzard has a good tract record with games as far as I'm concerned though.

There were enough special units in WC3 that it too alot of micro-management. Something that I wasn't fully capable of. I did have fun with the game but could never do well. Since the damage to Hp ratio was low, you could pull guys back and heal them pretty easy so you had to focus fire and keep track of damage type vs armor.

One the best games made. The only reason I even tried WoW is because I loved the lore of Warcraft but WoW failed to bring that to the game. I really liked the single player/RPG styled campaign they tried out with the Orcs on Kalimdor. It was a cool twist on the warcraft series

While I like and appreciate the core gameplay in WC3 -- I find myself always being drawn back to the tower defense maps on battlenet, especially the ones that stick you on teams. Maps like wintermaul wars, legion TD, and many others add a very challenging and different element to the game.

I love all the custom games! I have some friends that still get together to play these at LAN parties. I recently decided to go back and play through the regular game again since it's been so long since I played something other than the custom games.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

The custom map offerings nowadays totally suck. Back in like 2005-2007, there were a lot of fun maps to play...until Dota arrived. Then I just quit playing.

I'd go as far as to say it's the best RTS released to date (Starcraft II looks like it'll take that title, though). It's definitely a different flavor from the "simple" build-it-up and blow everything apart RTS's like Starcraft and C&C, though. Micro management is the key.

Things like knowing what units are good against what just comes with time and memorization. However, unlike most RTS's, you can't simply put your nukers in the back and tanks in the front and let them go to town on their own. You have to be using your spells - cyclone, polymorph, hero abilities, roar, summon skeletons, etc. - on a regular basis. When I first started playing, I thought it was stupid that they expected me to click on Holy Light to heal one of my poor footmen when he got low... why not just let him die and build a new one, or three? That attitude changes really fast when your opponent's heroes start gaining levels quickly...

Many people regard Starcraft as the best RTS to date, but I disagree. It was a GREAT game and has a huge legacy and following, but as one person said (and I wish I could remember who it was), Starcraft has reached the point where you can almost calculate who will win a match based on their first few moves, similar to chess. Yeah, they can throw a twist in there mid-game, but it's just not fun when one person goes Goliaths / Tanks / Vultures and another goes Mutas and lurkers. The outcome is predictable.

Used to. No need to replay. Star Craft 2. Diablo 3. The few worthy PC games for the next decade or so draws near...

It's slow and boring compared to modern fast-paced RTS's like DoW2 and CoH. Starcraft 2 will be the same. Base building is so 1997.
