What is an Organ prelude?
it is written out completely, or merely improvised by the organist based on the music?

Here we go......................
I grew up playing one...and then my parents sold it recently (for only 500 bucks!!!:|) . I was very sad to see it go...I learned everything on that thing!!! I even quit piano lessons to teach myself on it, because I liked it better. So many fun sounds to use and be creative with!
(by the way this is not Spooner...it's his girlfriend. I didn't know he was logged in, not me)
:p

You are probably being referred to the organ preludes written by Bach, each of which is the introduction to a Fugue. However in the strictest sense, a prelude is anything that comes before a musical piece. So you could play anything you wanted and call it a prelude.
