Playing the flute is very difficult. I was practicing on my buddies flute the other day and god damn I couldn't even get a sound out of it!

He was in the highschool band and he's actually still good.

eh? I guess I should have worded it a bit different. I'm serious though. He's a musician and quite good. I didn't think the flute was that hard of an instrument to master but god damn it's hard to play.

Okay okay...I'm sorry. I'm serious though, maybe you just weren't squeezing hard enough, try repositioning your fingers along it and squeezing a bit, something may come out then?

In all seriousness... I was a woodwinds major in grad school, and I do not like playing flute. Dude's right, it is really hard to get your mouth shaped just right--and until you do that, you're in danger of hyperventilating, 'cause it takes so much air otherwise.

Interesting trivia--playing trumpet is almost the exact physical opposite of playing flute. VERY difficult for someone to play the two horns adequately; Tom Malone in Letterman's band is the only person I know of like that.
 
I played back in High School - no jokes please! The embouchure (the way you shape your mouth when you blow air out) is difficult to master. I never did get it right.

I don't play anymore...now I spend most of my time trying to get a girl to play my flute. 🙁
