The possibilities are endless. It also depends a lot on your skill level. What kinds of music do you like to play/listen to?
Grade 7 level. I have my final grade 8 exam next year :)
(I don't do theory)

I like playing pop songs i.e the shizzle you listen on the radio :awe:
I like playing movie theme songs too.

But I do like my classics too :p

You play?

i had lessons for 10 years or so, but still dont sight read very well at all. was never my thing.

however i can play almost any song by ear on the first try. always found that way more fun than reading sheet. my brain just automatically divides whatever im hearing into right hand/left hand arrangement.

This means something different for people who listen to the Ace and TJ show. "Playing the piano" is their code for sexy time.

I've been playing Piano since 10th grade.

Its cool you want to play something, but you can't just "learn" a song. You need to learn technique, sight reading, how to count, etc.

I'd start off with something simple like Solfegietto - CPE Bach.

This was my first piece. It is very easy to play, even though it looks hard. Its just arpeggios.

I'd also recommend Variations in D Major - Kabalevsky

Both pieces that I played and mastered as a noob. So, you can do it too.

I suck at sight reading hence why I don't do theory exams. I play by ear.

Also, how the hell did you learn to play this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5cbiWhOJ4k as your first piece? (Just curious) That song is grade 2-3 level. Did you taught yourself or lessons?

This was my first piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUyiKXNZaFM&noredirect=1 lol :)

(Sorry for my bad grammar I am Swedish :) )

I had/have a Piano teacher. But, like I said, the piece is not as hard to perform as you think. I actually learned a lot of the passages at home during practice when I decided to continue on after finishing my "homework" for that week after lessons.

I mastered it in two weeks. It is very fun.

Here is what I am working on now:

Piano Sonata - Beethoven "Tempest"

Also, I am not the best sight reader. I attribute that to laziness. Music theory sucks ass and my teacher pretty much had to fight me most of the time. I have a little sister who is 20 and she sight reads like a champ. Its not a HUGE deal as I have still learned some pretty difficult pieces. However, I don't recognize some notes as fast as my sister, so it takes me a bit longer to learn a piece. However, my teacher says I have a better "touch" than she does and I play with more emotion. Probably because I am pissed off at a piece 99.9% of the time LOL

Btw, that is not a bad first piece. That is pretty good to start. You should have seen the kids book my first teacher had us learning out of when we were teenagers starting out!
