Thinking about switching to a 2005fp the next time I see it on sale. My concern though is that BF2 doesn't support widescreen natively. I know there are some res hacks to get it to stretch but how playable is this work around?

It will cut the top and bottom of your screen of, giving you a disadvantage.

But an advantage in other areas... Since BF2 is not just ground combat, then it is a pretty even trade off. Being able to see more from the right to left and less from the top to bottom. Typically though, widescreen is far better in most situations. But in games like BF2 it is a wash...

Unfortunately, I'm not sure you understand the BS that is BF2. What it does is take the same view that everyone else gets, zooms in, then chops off the top and bottom. So not only do you not get the same horizontal viewing field as everyone else, you get much less vertical as well.

BF2 will never implement true widescreen support.

Yes, I might not have understood that... I played the game on my monitor and did not recall that it was incorrect, but then again, I really didn't play it much... I suppose if they did zoom in, then it would just remove the top and bottom... Wow, that is really a sucky thing man...

Trust me. It's there. The game looks good and normal, but it definately chops the top/bottom off (and no, it does not give more left/right)

Does it accept any other WS resolutions? I can only launch with 1280x720 which isn't even 16:10. My system can't quite do 1680x1050 but all of the valid ones I've tried in between those make the game quit right after launching.

I saw pics when the widescreen hack was first figured out, there were side by side comparison screenshots and the widescreen didnt just haved the top and bottom chopped off but the picture was also stretched out and more blurry. Does this problem still exist or did someone figure out to make it more crisp?

<----- plays bf2 on 2005fpw

the 3D portion is fine. It's just the 2D sprites and other 2D stuff like the map, crosshair, HUD's are stretched.

oh and you have to do the cmd line hack, and change something using a hex editor...

forgot how to do it heh.

All you should have to do is put this in the target field for your BF2 icon.

"X:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

There should be no need to use a hex editor.
