Basically not even saying the words aloud in your head but just seeing the words and kinda comprehending them anyway. It's very hard to me, but now I'm doing research on Evelyn Wood who supposedly discovered speed reading. Anyone here own her CDs?

more something i picked up as a crazy keen reader when i was a kid, i'll knock off most books in a few hours, which kinda puts me off buying them now 😛
 
yes.

I kind of have to force myself not to. I got into the habit as an undergrad, when I had hundreds upon hundreds of pages of reading every week, and cant seem to break out of it even now that I can read things at a more leisurely pace.

I have to sit back and really concentrate on reading slowly, or else I content read and miss out on the nuances of a text.
 
Yeah I sometimes try to read without hearing the words in my head, but I miss out on stuff and think in the long run it isn't worth it.
