anyone here live on a boat?

anyone live on a boat docked up somewhere? I'm thinking of moving to a POS houseboat for next semester, will end up to be cheaper than an apt and I'll own the boat by the end of the year. I know you can get cable TV on them, but what about internet access while your docked? I could always use my cell phone via bluetooth but I don't wanna be stuck with such slow speeds. Is travel from California to Mexico and back legal w/out a bunch of paperwork? Is there any other advantages/disadvantages to living on a boat , and do you like it so far? any info would be great.. thanks

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over. Why in the world would you want to live on a boat? Is $ that bad right now? Can you work an extra job to get the $ to pay for rent?

Nope, I actually will be receiving financial aid and probably won't work at all, I'm just more concerned with how much leftover spending cash I have rather than where I live ^.^. I'd also like to own the boat rather than pay rent to someone else... so pretty much my options are left at living in the ghetto over by school, or living a little bit past it in a houseboat

Living on a houseboat for a bit sounds like a lot of fun. Is it warm where you live? It can get cold on the water

Ughh. A house boat is cramped and not, by any means, fun. I don't know much about houseboats, but I can't imagine the thing being any wider than 15 feet, maybe 30 feet long. Low ceilings... lord only knows what the plumbing is like on the damn things...

The pain-in-the-ass factor of living in a house boat would far outweigh the two or three "benefits" you've listed.

Not only that, but it being a POS boat will make things not fun at ALL.

To put it kindly, this is a stupid idea.

A houseboat may be a fun thing to do with a couple of friends for a few weeks, maybe even a month. But as a permanent residence... HELL NO.

I think it would be cool to live on a houseboat albeit it temporary and I could leave back to a normal house whenver I want.

There was just a recent movie where Clint Eastwood lived on a houseboat.
"Blood Work"
Go rent that and think of living next to Jasper Noone

How POS is this POS houseboat? I mean, is like a Home Depot Do-It-Yourself shed mounted on a 1970's pontoon boat or what?

Neat idea but I think the novelty of it would wear off quickly. Try renting one for a week or two and see how you like it. Then decide.

I know a guy who used to live on a houseboat in Lake Mead near Las Vegas. The boat wasn't particularly huge, but it was comparable to a mobile home. Not that bad, really. He had satelilite TV with DirecTV or someone similar, I don't know about an internet connection.

There's no way in hell I would have taken that boat out in the open ocean though. It would have been fine in the lake, but it would have fallen apart in 10 foot seas, and that's really not that big for the ocean.
