I'm looking for some suggestions for places to view the shuttle launch without a pass to view it from the Space Center proper.

No, but when I was stationed in Mayport I visited one 4th of July. Had sex with a girl I only vaguely recall now.

I was in that area a few weeks ago and some locals said the pier in Cocoa Beach was decent to view from.

A woman at the space center told me about a place in Titusville that is a park with a couple of piers but the directions she gave me are worthless. She said you get there 3-4 hours early and you can park free. Where I am staying in Cocoa Beach I can see the VAB from the beach but would like to get closer than this.

He said the closest and best place to watch the launch is Space View Park in Titusville on U.S. Highway 1, near Garden Street. The park may be close but he said it will be packed with people.

"It will be a zoo there," Billow said.

Anywhere along U.S. Highway 1 in Titusville will also provide good viewing spots. Billow recommends the Holiday Inn because it has some space and he said that there are two or three small parks in the area.

Titusville is the second best clear-viewing area. About 12 miles from the launch pad, it’s the closest off-site spot, and the only free location to watch the shuttle.

The view from anywhere in Titusville along the Indian River, running the length of US-1 from Garden Street in the north, down to around Highway 50 in the south, is perfectly clear across the water to both launch pads.

One of the more popular places the aptly named Spaceview Park, at the northern end of Titusville. The Astronaut Walk of Fame is there, too, which is a good way to pass the time while waiting for launch.
