Anyone here listen to Portishead?

Big fan, their latest record after such a long absence was pretty decent too.

There really aren't too many similar artists.. there definitely are other bands in the trip-hop genre but Portishead have a unique voice. You might be into Tricky or Massive Attack or UNKLE if you like PH.

I usually use Music Map as a starting point then I'll look them up on wikipedia and to get a general idea of who they are, then I listen to some of their songs on imeem or youtube.

Hmm, you might like Little Dragon's first album. Also try Res and Esthero, they both are good singers with tight downtempo/lo-fi production. If you don't mind instrumental only projects, try looking into Cinematic Orchestra and certain albums by Stereolab.

Edit: How could I forget Flying Lotus, he's in my sig. Definitely check out Flying Lotus, I'd recommend listening to some tracks from his album LA. Very trippy, dark and sometimes with a slight hiphop feel. I thought LA was the best instrumental album of 08 (as did a lot of reviewers).

yup, i dig portishead. the girl is hot and she would be awesome to be friends with.. she makes almost everything in her bedroom.. i saw a vid about her on tv, and her music workstation is right next to her bed. she just rolls out of bed and makes music.

Yup, Ninja Tune stuff is kick ass.

You guys have it pretty much covered. I'd add Moloko and Thievery Corporation along with the Mo Wax album Some Scientific Abstract Type Shit if you can find it.

I've got an awesome Portishead Pandora channel that I could share as well. I've been weeding out the bullshit from it for a good year now.
