Anyone here know anything auto A/C

I have my wife's old 99 Escort and the A/C recently went out and I am trying to find out if it's the CCRM or if it needs a recharge.

I am also trying to find info on recharging the A/C myself because we just purchased a new car, and I am trying to sell the Escort.

I've been told that if it went out it is due to seals going bad and the refrigerant leaking out, so just a recharge won't fix it for long.

My AC died on me too

AC recharging can be done at home for $30, they sell cans of the stuff with the hoses included. I got 2 cans and the guage/hose thing at autozone. You could try it, though it probably is the compressor or seals if I had to guess with the information you have.

Do you hear the compressor kick on then off when you hit the A/C button in the car or does it just never come on? If you have a leak somewhere in the system you will have to have it tested.

Yes the compressor does kick on. It seems I may have sold the car regarless, just got a call from someone that had came by to look at the car.

Is the cooling fan coming on when you turn the A/C on?
