Check Edmunds.com for pics of previous years. I believe the new body style debuted as a 2001 or 2002.

The new bodystyle debuted in 2002. Most ppl still prefer the old bodystyle(B4 platform) as the new design adds much weight.
The 1999 and 1999.5 is probably the best A4 to date, but if you want to buy new, just get the latest one and make sure your not getting any 2002 left over is those cars are plague with coil packs SARS hihihi...

B4 platform is from yr 1996- 2001.
here is the link to a way to tell the different year of B4 platform of an A4.

A4 is a great car!

It's the B5 platform for 96-2001, not the B4. The 99 and 99.5 are not the best years to have, anything before 2000 have a tendency for the control arms to fail. The rubber bushings on the control arm deteriorate, and it's actually easier to change the entire arm. The problem is, there are 4 arms per wheel, so you can see how that can add up. MY2000 and up fixed the problem, for the most part.
Don't worry about coil pack problems. They are fixed under a recall, so it's free. And once they are fixed, they're fixed for good. Not really that big of a problem.

SyahM, where did you get that link? It says that the 1.8T was not available in 98, but I know for a fact that I test drove one. Curious.
