I doubt many people install them themselves - it can be VERY dangerous, and a general PITA.

not a door, per-se. But I installed a garage door opener... I got the costco 150$ one, it was daunting for the first few hours as I took all the guts out of the box.
it took me 2-3 days of just learning the pieces, their purpose, and what could possibly go wrong if I didn't take my time...
It turned out great. There's parts where a second set of hands is really needed. it was for a single small garage, and turned out pretty cool. only thing that sux is that when it rains, the door jams half ways.. i'm thinking its a crooked door to begin with, but that's about it.

Look for one that has torsion spring, better and safer. Doors range quite a bit in price depending on size and features.

My parents got a new one but they didn't do it themselves. And they apparently have a strange sized door so they had to have it custom ordered. No idea what it cost though.

$1000 installed. Genie chain drive with raised panels, no windows, steel hurricane reinforcement beams, and a bit of insulation since the door will face south. Chain drive is noisier, but the neighbor has a chain drive and it is super quiet. How'd he do it? He lubed the heck out of it with silicon spray!

Did you got to a home depot type place or a specialty business?
