Anyone here in US Special Operations, stuff where you need to keep secrets?

Specifically, a Special Operations job where you need to keep secrets from your loved ones. Can you PM me?

I have PMs turned off, so I'll have to say it here.

Ask away. I served in the US, French, North Korean, and Prussian special forces during the mid 90's.

You're not going to get anyone to answer you on a forum like this. At least nobody smart about their job, which is most of the people that fit this description. Sorry to be a downer about that, but merely talking about one's clearance with random online people is not smiled upon.

The questions and advice I have have nothing to do about job specifics. Absolutely nothing. If anything, it's about someone *else* in my life.

If they really do work in that sort of field you'll be doing them a favor by not talking about anything to do with it.

Pretty much this. You can insert one of those silly Fight Club type sayings in here if you want to go all meme about it. Essentially, it's considered not secure to talk about your clearances.

Maybe he'll get a response from the wanker who claims to be in the SAS.

wtf is the big deal? This *someone else* in your life can't talk about their clearance, or their work. End of story. Are you feeling put out because they can't share this part of their life with you?

I'm going to have some sort of clearance soon, and it's pretty simple. You cannot talk about the parts of your work that are classified, and it's best to keep the rest to only the bare minimum.

If they're not talking about deployments, that's standard.

No, people totally lie about being SEALs and shit. And you can tell a bullshit, "I can't say anything." from actual classification restrictions.

No, far from it.

I'm not asking about deployments. I'm asking about someone who says they're this and this but what they say and do (or don't do) have me almost convinced that they are not who they say they are. I want to talk to someone in the know who can help me go through what this person has said and tell me whether or not it sounds like they are who they say they are.

Some jobs everyone in it gets clearance even if you never touch classified stuff, and it's not like having clearance lets you browse at your leasure. Not really a big deal in my opinion.

Would a background check help any? It's creepy/stalkerish, but an option, perhaps. Won't reveal TOO much but may reveal some.

Why not be direct with this person and tell them delicately that you have some doubts?
