anyone here have their htpc connected to a hdtv?

so i got a hdtv with hdmi. I have an dvi to hdmi cable, plugged it in and it works. also installed powerstrip, but i can't seem to do what all the guides out there are telling me to do.

I'm using a gainward ultra 650/tv it's like a geforce4 ti4200 64mb. has vga/s-video/dvi out.

all the guides are the same, create custom resolution, reset then select that resolution. i can select new timings, but after reset, I can't pick them. it's not under display--> config.

can anyone help?
