I just signed up for AAA the other day, but i've been thinking about canceling and switching to GE Motor Club through Sams Club.

AAA Plus for Me and the Wife = $146/year
GE Motor Club for Me and the Wife = $58.96/year

Difference of $87.04/year

Not counting the AAA discounts, the biggest difference is mileage.

AAA Plus - 100 miles
GE Motor Club - 10 miles

I can't really foresee many times in which we would need the full 100 mile towing, as my car is no longer under warranty so any shop will do.

I agree that the AAA standard is too low at 5 miles, but 10 miles doesn't seem too bad.

Do you actually use the AAA discounts? If not, then it doesn't really matter.

If your car is in good working order, the chances of needing any towing service are low, but you never know. For me 10 miles isn't enough in the case of a breakdown.

I keep the AAA Plus as I would like to be towed to the garage I prefer (and closer to home), not the one that is in the available radius. Also, the tracks I frequent are farther than 10 miles away.

My AAA Plus membership paid for itself this year already. Used it to tow a 924 Turbo a friend and I picked up. Towed it about 50 miles, which I'm sure would have cost at least the membership fee.

I also load up on the maps they have at the offices :D
