Anyone have just the base model? My gf wants to pick one up. I guess we're going to wait around for another coupon to pop up. She kinda wants Win XP Pro and the DVD+RW.
 
Why would you ever need XP Pro from Dell, and why would you need the DVD burner? Tell your GF to be realistic and learn something about computers. I am HOPING you have an unused XP pro license laying around, because PRO is not worth the extra money from Dell.

Should we just stick with the base model and order today or should we stick it out and wait a little while for some type of coupon to pop up?
 
why does she want PRO over home? there are extra features obviously, but is there any reason she wants to?

Do they even have that? If they did I'd imagine it'd cost an arm and a leg.

I'm sure someone has an optical USB 2.0 enclosure that they use with a DVD RW though.

My only complaint is that the keyboard is very flimsy.
I tried the 5100 at a mall and the keyboard is just fine.
Don't understand why its so flimsy on the 600m. Every 600m owner will atest to this.

I can live with it though cause I got it so cheap.

And the usual other stuff for $1049.

He's the one with the issues and well it's just who he is and I accept that.

You two have good taste in laptops, I would definitely wait until Dell has another good deal such as this. I've also found that XPBargains.com is one of the best at listing Dell deals, just check their page at least once a day.

Actually, I don't find my keyboard to be all the flimsy. No more so than my old Thinkpad. I love my 600m, I maxed it out, so it runs almost as fast as my desktop. Very easy to tote around, fast enough to do almost anything you need to do on a computer. All around a very good laptop IMO.

I checked the laptop forum and everyone who has a 600m mentioned this.
I didn't think it was bad until I saw a Dell stand at the mall.
I checked all the others and it was very sturdy and then there was the 600m. Same effect as my 600m.
It might be as equal as your old Thinkpad but after testing the 5100, why can't Dell use the same keyboard on the 600m???

Total agreement on the 600m on everything else.

My 600m's keyboard isn't "very flimsy". However, its not the most solid keyboard I've used either. Its not a fatal flaw in my book. I love my 600m
 
I had one, but returned it. Battery life is not "centrino caliber". I mean why get a ccentrino if it has the same battery life as a P3-M??? My X22 gets longer battery life than the 600M. I even got it for $900 w/ DVD/CDRW combo. At least now I have $900 to put towards a T40 purchase.
 
My personal laptop is a 600m "base" model. It has a 1.3ghz pentium-m, 384megs ram, dvd/cdrw, 30gig HD, 32 meg radeon 9000, and the intel wireless. I upgraded to the sxga+ screen, make sure you do that, the lower one sucks. I love the thing. It's light, fast, and has tons of features. My work brick that I have to lug around is a Dell Latitude D840 with a 2.2ghz P-4, 512megs ram, 40 gig 5400 rpm drive, adn 32meg g4go. When I stuck winxp on it, it was faster than my 600m, but the battery life is no where close to the 600m.
 
I did once own a 600m. The keyboard isn't flimsy but the whole board bounces whenever I pressed a key around the middle, I solved that problem by putting some sponge material under the board.

I agree with bigshooter, if your gonna get the 600m at least get a SXGA+.

 
I cancelled my order due to not picking the right screen. Gonna hold out for bigger and better deals to be offered by Dell.
