By travel I mean visiting a place as a tourist.

I really have no interest in travelling, just doesn't seem like a thing I would enjoy. I am sure Paris looks very nice at night, and that the sunset is really beautiful in Cancun. But I can't see myself paying money to go see all these places. Travalling seems just too boring to me. I have actually never left Texas, except for once, when I went to Laredo to visit family and crossed over to the Mexican side of the border.

Anyone here have no interest in travel like me?

look, i'm sure you're a nice person and all, but do you honestly don't have any curiosity about the world outside your own backyard?

You're crazy!

But seriously, I enjoy watching a travel show on PBS now and then but have no great desire to go in person.

look, i'm sure you're a nice person and all, but do you honestly don't have any curiosity about the world outside your own backyard?

Books, magazines, video, movies, and good ethnic restaurants. Who needs to leave Seattle to experience most of what the rest of the world has to offer?

If you enjoy travel and shopping in Paris or Japan, great. I'll just watch Amelie and Wasabi and put a couple thousand more into my Schwab account instead :) .

That's exactly my thought too. I work at an all year round internship which pays really good. During Spring Break, a lot of people go places, but when i think about it, I think of the opportunity cost. I have to pay $600-1000 to go to Cancun, South Padre, etc. On top of that, I will lose around $600-800 for the week I will be taking off. So total cost is like $1200 - 1600.

I'm with you. Currently, I'm unemployed and have been since October. Before that I worked minimum of 10 hours per day and Saturdays with no vacations to speak of. Just three day weekends throughout the year. During those few days off, the last thing I wanted to do was travel. It always amused me that people would sink so much money, time and effort into their homes, then the first chance at getting time off, they can't wait to get away from their home!

I cherished free time at home to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Now that I've had so much free time, I don't feel much different. I owe the rest of my family a decent vacation, so I looked into a Disney world trip... till I totaled it up! :Q We'll be on a modest vacation throughout Michigan next week. That'll have to do.

If I did take the trouble and expense to hop on a plane, I'd rather make it good. Might as well head over to Europe or something. I'd like to go somewhere exotic, but I'm leery of... shall we say, less than hygienic accommodations. I've heard some horror stories that I'd rather not have to live through, and pay mega bucks for the privilege to boot.

Needless to say, if I lived alone, I wouldn't give a thought to traveling anywhere at all!

That's right. I never go anywhere. I'm short on money and thus can't afford pretty much anything (or nothing). So screw this travelling. Of course, if I had a GF, it could be nice to go some place and have fun, but on my own - heck no. What would I do there? Spend money on it, and come back to just where I started. I think if I ever leave this place I'm not coming back, if I go I'll go forever.

I have no interest in traveling to big cities, but I'd like to go whale watching sometime.

oh..i feel sorry for you fools you've never left their backyards.

I wasnt a big fan of travelling until recently. now i go places for work and its quite fun.

right now Im in an internet cafe @ the basement of a burger king in london. this is my 6th day and Im getting use to this city.

sure its bloody expensive. i've spent about $1000 on hotel, $400 on food, $700 on flight, maybe some more in misc expenses. but since its not my money i really dont give a hoot. recently Ive been trying to average 25pounds per meal ($40) and its quite hard when you go to those cheaper places. i have to order like two appetizers, bunch of drinks and dessert on top of the main dish.

they sure are mean to americans though...dont expect any help from local folks. the nicest person was my hotel's conceirge.

come on folks..you dont have to travel..but at least be willing to absorb different cultures and countries. next stop...the strip clubs of Montreal!! anyone have any tips?

Perhaps you should try it just to make sure it's really as boring as you think it is. You might be missing something and not even know it.

I too feel the same way as you, TommyVercetti. I often shock people when I tell them that I've never been outside of the Eastern Time Zone. I couldn't care less about that fact, yet I still consider myself to be a "worldly" person just from my second-hand experiences and trying out the many things at the limited places I've been to. There are so many other ways to learn about different lands and cultures especially nowadays with the world wide web.

The only thing that would motivate me to travel is to meet people I've befriended online or to perhaps visit all my family members, none of whom I've ever met or known before since they're all in Korea, but even that doesn't interest me too much. Travelling for the sake of travelling just does not appeal to me enough to justify the cost of it.

I can't think of anything as dull and unexciting as not traveling.

There's so much the world has to offer to the traveler that to limit yourself to muted, vicarious experiences of other cultures and locations through books or the internet, to me, is unthinkable.

I don't find anything fascinating about different cultures, mountains, bodies of water, or any other famous land or human spectacle.

Bingo!
I'm a bit old and my health isn't that great now, but somanabeech, I traveled through most of the US, a good portion of Western Europe, and a few places in Latin America.
I wouldn't trade those days for anything!!
