Im comparing the MB Quart PCE 216 and the Diamond Audio D661a speakers and specs wise, they are pretty much even. But specs tell nothing when it comes to speakers. I know the best way would be for me to go listen to them, but there are no MB Quart dealers near me. There is a Diamond Audio dealer, but he is 54 miles away...quite a hike. So im trying to do as much preliminary research on the net as possible.

does anyone have any experience with MB Quart or Diamond Audio speakers? Or do you have either of these components in your car? If so, let me know your opinion - your likes, your dislikes, anything.

Having sold them both... Buy the Diamonds. They are hands down the best sounding car audio speaker I've ever heard. Make sure you have a very good amp behind them. DO NOT try to power them off your head unit.

interesting. thanks. The Diamonds are cheaper than the Quarts (on ebay) also.
Gonna power them with an Alpine v12 amp that puts out 50 W RMS x 4. you think that is not enough power. going to the next level amp which puts out 100W RMS x 4 would put this over my budget...

I agree with them being better than the MBs. But the best?? Have you ever heard Seas or top of the line Dynaudios?

I think the diamonds are better in every way. I hate the way MB aluminum tweeters sound.

ummm...the MB Quarts have titanium tweeters. The Diamonds come in either aluminum or silk tweeters. When I spoke with the dealer, he told me there were no demand for the silk tweeters so he stopped carrying them. He only has the aluminum tweeters now

edit: but I do agree that (well made) soft dome tweeters produce better sound than (not so well made) hard dome tweeters. But I also hear that the best are the well made hard dome tweeters as most soft dome cant produce anything over 20kHz

Much better highs and mids. MB's are pretty harsh in the higher frequencies. The Diamonds just have an over-all smoother, more pleasing sound. They also image like crazy.

all I have to say is

Dynaudio > Bose

Dynadio > Bose > JL (whatever Toyota has in their cars)

Reading comprehension FTW!!! I said, "best I've ever heard" not best "EVAR!!!!1q!@one!!11".

And to answer your question, yes I've heard the Dynaudios. They are very nice but not as nice as the Diamonds. I've never listened to Seas.

yea all the new passat owners are raving about the Dynaudio option over at vwvortex. Im surprised VW is only charging $900 for the Dynaudio upgrade when their home speakers are easily worth as much as the passat itself (their car speakers have the same tech behind it as their home speakers)

alas, I am on a limited budget and wish I would afford aftermarket Dynaudio speakers.

and yes, Dynaudio >>>> Bose
but too bad Dynaudio doesnt have the same name recognition as Bose here in US and I dont see the Dynaudio option being offered for more than a couple years in the Passat

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong as it is your opinion after all, and Ive never heard Diamonds or Dynaudio speakers myself, but from talking to many audiophiles over in vwvortex, I gather that Dynaudio, Focal, and Vifa make some of the best speakers in the world. Diamonds would be a step or two below them...

but its all subjective...

I have heard some really nasty hot metal tweeters lately. A friend, who is showing signs of a huge high end hearing loss at 29, has MB Quarts components in his car, and it's just too much. He thinks it sounds good, but his fiancee, bother, me, and several other people who have ridden with him have told him he was nuts to replace the Memphis speakers it had when he bought it. No matter how much you play with the EQ, it's either kind of dull and hard sounding , or it makes your ears bleed.

With the Memphis speakers, it was one of the best sounding reasonably sane, price wise set ups I have ever heard. I would have taken the Memphis speakers off his hands, but he traded them in on the MB's. He didn't get much for them, he could have done better on ebay.

Me myself, I want a softer highend, silk, fabric, or mylar domes for me.

isn't it true that Rockford Fosgate bought MB Quart so it sucks now?
