I'm looking for some first-hand experience.

I just completed a remodel of an office/bedroom, including completely upgraded wiring, HVAC, integrated speakers, etc. My goal is to have our two gaming rigs in the basement underneath the office with only the monitors and peripherals in the office. To get from the wall plate, into the basement, then over to the server/AV rack is ~17 feet. This distance is not a problem whatsoever for audio cables or video cables, but the bigger issue is USB...

The way I see it, I only need to run two USB 3.0 cables, at which point a 3.0 hub for each PC can sit under the desk for connecting devices. The only reason I want 3.0 is for the transfer speed to and from removable storage.

I can find plenty of products on Monoprice and Amazon that appear to address this issue, but I figured I'd ask here before buying anything. Maybe I only need the hubs in the office to act as a repeater/power source and can get away with a passive (cheaper) cable to run the distance?

You need an active cable or powered hub at around the 3 meter mark.
