Anyone here have carbon fiber re-painted?

Ok you want a black and white answer.yes they will be able to repair it properly and.have it.look orginal.ive painted CF hoods with the sides painted and the middle remained CF. None of my customers were unhappy but if they were i would sand the paint and clear back with a fine grit retape correctly and repaint and reclear having it look orginal and the correct way the.customer wanted. So issues or flaws with the cf

It had to do with them replacing the part, painting it and having them re&re the new part while you wait.

It's him trying to help you, Alky. He's saying that if this is an aftermarket part then what's the issue with putting the stock part on and leaving them the aftermarket piece.


In my opinion you've gotten a lot of good advice and you could be a lot less shitty to people about it.

Wait for re&re, you know REMOVAL AND RE-INSTALL. All you had to do was ask if you did not understand what re&re meant.

I have already asked you not to respond to my threads. It's clear you can't even get E36 vs E46's straight, don't know much about M's at all...your posts are simply troll fodder hoping to rev up people into flaming attacks.

Quite simply I wanted to know about repainting this piece. Not about how I should demand a refund, return it, etc.

This was an example of people feeling the need to put two cents into my threads without actually having any change.

If you feel this way, like I have said; skip my posts. I can tell you right now, I know 100% there is nothing you could ever answer for me that I wouldn't already know.

That's probably the most qualified answer you're going to get. If a professional body shop guy's answer isn't good enough for you, I would suggest you seek help from another source than the internet.

My almost 10 years of doing body work allows me to KNOW how it would come out if a professional did it. ive have honestly tried to help you but at this point i honestly have no idea the answer you are thinking you need....

and heres another opinion from a former industrial painter. yes, it will look fine, if the painter is a good painter. blending the clear isnt too terribly hard, so it shouldnt be a big deal. id be more worried about the paint coming completely out of the CF, which isnt really that hard to do either.


id still say wait for the replacement if the shop is willing to buy you a new one.

I don't think he realizes that the carbon fiber is shellacked together inside resin. So essentially you've got the carbon cloth, then resin, then paint, then clear coat. They will sand down the clear and the paint. The resin will still be there between the cloth and their sander. They will not damage the part unless they're idiots and sand through 1/8th of an inch of resin.

No, I do realize there is a resin layer.

The resin wont hold up to the UV rays from the sun. So they clear coat it with a urethane clear coat(which is called Automotive Clear Coat) to protect it from the harsh UV rays. If you sand the resin down to a nice consistent clean/smooth piece then give it 2 or 3 good coats of urethane it will look perfect and will last for years.
