I need a new mattress. My 8 year old foam base/memory foam topper mattress is awful now, and I'm looking at either a pocket coil mattress or a latex mattress. The latex seemed comfortable but I don't know anyone that actually has one and knows much about durability, comfort after a period of "break in" time, etc...

So, soliciting any thoughts on them here.

Anyone?

Sounds kinky... :hmm:

Hmmm...Why not just get another topper for your mattress? Ideally, you can just exchange those every few years and not have to buy a whole new mattress.

GO to Costco and buy their memory foam mattress in a box. Great bed for CHEAP! (Sam's club sells one, too, but I only have experience with the Costco version).

I bought a Sealy latex mattress (Reflexion Newport Beach?) about 5 years ago. It wasn't cheap, like $1600, but is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. Super comfortable and will probably last 20 years easily. It has gotten rave reviews from any guests who have ever slept in it and I know that several folks bought one themselves after trying mine.

BTW, you need to get a real latex mattress, not one of those "memory foam" mattresses.

I am still using a high-density memory foam topper on a coil mattress. Rocks my socks off - I've never slept in a better bed.

I have a latex mattress and it's really comfortable. I have this model:

I never heard of a break in time, but the salesmen says that I had to flip the mattress every 3 months. The mattress is still very comfortable, i haven't notice any change to it since I've got it 2 years ago. My brother has a previous generation model and he for 4 years and he's never complained about it.

I tried one when we were buying this spring. It kinda felt more like a regular matress to me, with the bounce and whatnot. That's the only part I didn't like. I decided on a Tempur, but the latex was up there. The latex is probably cooler to sleep in too.
One of our matress stores was just starting to get into the gel matresses, now THOSE were unique and comfortable. Quite expensive though. It's like a hollow honeycomb pattern, but sounds like you're laying on squishy stuff when you move around.

I've been using latex mattresses for 10 years now. Had a really nice one at first, then got divorced and the ex took it with her. Since then I bought another one - the higher end latex mattress from Ikea. Not as good as the one I had before, but still very comfy. They are supposed to have a 30 year lifespan.
