Just curious if any of you do... I have a Vonage phone line and a Series 2 Hughes DirecTiVo connected to it and no matter what I do I just can't get it to dial out. Please post if you've been successful.

I had always thought there was an issue with getting Tivo to work with Vonage stuff. I believe Fatwallet or HDs had a thread about it.

Evidently, there is. I'm having problems, but other people seem to have some success. What's HDs?

I would also recommend checking out Packet8.net which is cheaper than Vonage but not available everywhere yet.

Thanks.

I've heard of Packet8, but they're not available in NY, so I opted for Vonage [a while ago].
I'm aware that people have had problems, have asked both Hughes and Vonage about this problem and both can confirm (Vonage is well aware of it), and have also read posts and posted a thread about this in the Tivo Community Forums, but was just wondering if anyone here had a similar experience and was able to overcome it.

vonage requires that you dial 11 digits, 1 + the 10 digit phone number. the Tivo probably is dialing 7, just set it to dial 1 and area code. i'm sure that option is available.

I thought of that before...it's set to 11 digits currently.

then there is no reason that tivo shouldn't be able to dial out, i can fax over vonage, i can use my modem over vonage, what exactly would prevent tivo from doing the same?

Exactly what I'm wondering about.
Some people have suggested adding prefixes, such as ",#034" and "*99,#034" to decrease the TiVo's modem speed and to switch the ATA 186 to "fax mode" and decrease the modem speed, respectively.
EDIT: Neither helped me.

I'm about to trade this DTiVo in for a different model or perhaps even a stand-alone TiVo and then get a separate receiver for it.
