I'm thinking about buying a 92 XLE w/ 130k but it seems like pretty high mileage. My parents have a camry and i know theyre awesome cars, but im worried about investing 5k$ in a car w/ 130k miles. Any other camry owners have some advice?

I have a '96 with 117,000 miles on it. I have the 4-cyl. engine and its still smooth and solid.....but I did keep up with all the maintenance stuff and take good care of the car inside and out. If the car comes with all the records of work that was done on it.....and shows no sign of accidents.......I say its a pretty safe bet that you'll get 100,000 miles out of that car if you wanted to. Personally I would never buy a used car with that many miles but .... Toyotas as well as Hondas are a safe bet when it comes to used cars.

I have a '95 Camry LE with 4-cylinder engine and it has 109,350 miles on it. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. Just makes sure that the oil has been changed regularly and the timing belt should have been replaced ~ 70,000 miles. I also had the brakes done at around 90,000 miles and new tires at 95,000.

My car still looks nearly in showroom condition

I have a 96 Camry LE with the 4 cylinder engine and ABS; it has 55,500 miles right now. As everyone says, it's a very good, reliable car.

That said, I never expect to get more than 10 years or more than 100,000 miles out of a car. And to estimate what I'm willing to pay for a used car, I multiply the cost of a new one by the lower of the two fractions for remaining life (i.e. (10-age)/10 or (100,000-miles)/100,000). So, your 92 with 130,000 miles is pretty much done for (IMHO).

If you do decide to buy it, make sure you have some money in reserve for big repair bills in the next couple of years...

I will not spend $5000 on a 92 Camry

the car is good but price should be around $3000-$4000

I have friends who bought one for less than $3000

from edmunds.com
Dealer Trade-In: What Others Are Getting $3,273
Private Party: What Others Are Getting/Paying $4,035
Dealer Retail: What Others Are Paying $5,307

I had a 1991 Camry. It was the best car I have owned (I've had 2 cars since). I bought it for $6000. It had 90,000 miles. I ended up adding 40,000 miles to it in 2.5 years. I never had a problem with it...

Toyotas do last forever...i got a 90 celica with 180k on it. 5000 does seem a little high for a car with that many miles on it though. See if they'll let it go for round 4

I have a 2002 Honda Accord SE, oh wait you were asking about Camry's :D

Seriously though. I would test drive the car, have a trusted mechanic thoroughly inspect it inside and out, last but not least look at kbb.com

$5,000 seems high for a 10 year old car but Camry's run forever and hold their resale value very well. I'd pay $4,000 or $4,500 depending on the mechanical condition.

That's too much money for a 92. I think $3000 would be more like it. If, and only if, the car is in killer condition, I might consider that price ($5000), but my definition of "killer" would probably kill the deal.

EDIT, BTW, I didn't look at Edmunds or anything, just intuition.

After doing some research I might pay $4,000 tops if it were in great condition.

Here's two links you should definitely check out:
