Since DirecTV DSL is now defunct I am forced to choose a new ISP. Now I'm looking at Speakeasy which is offering 608 down / 128 up. I'm used to 1.5 down / 128 up. My DSL is consistantly getting 1.3 down at home and I love it.

So my question is do you think I will tell the difference between 1.5 and 608? I'm not sure if Speakeasy is worth it. I'm getting less bandwidth for $10 more a month, but a free X-Box. Any opinions would be great. I'm 6600 feet away from my CO, I don't do online games or streaming video. Just regular web surfing. I do download MP3s and other files from Kazaa and hotline, but that is usually at about 20k anyway. So what do you think?

You are paying more for their service because you get things like:

2 static IPs
shell account
Their awesome customer service

If that stuff doesn't mean much to you, you may want to look at another provider in your area that is less expensive. I can tell you that I switched to them and have loved them so far. Great service and nice extras.

608 down = about 76K/s maximum download. If all you are doing is web surfing and downloading MP3s at 20K/s, you will probably never notice the difference. Turn your PM on and I will be happy to help you out more.

The contract is 18 months. Which is a long time. I'm only going to be in my apartment for another year, so first of all they will have to lower that. Which they probably will. I've seen other people get it with a year. I'm just nervouse about the speeds. I don't want to have dialup speeds for the premium price.
