Anyone here good and costume making(specifically full mask) with some tips?

Ok, I am looking at making a custom mask for myself for an event. I know how to sew pretty good but I have never made a mask. Essentially, the mask needs to be a lot larger than my head so I thought Styrofoam or cotton would be best to fill it up. Would a wire meshing be required to keep it sturdy?

Also, what could I use for a liner to keep it steady on my head. This is a full mask type thing kind of like what you would see on a character walking around disney world.

Also, I need some sort of material that would look very similar to scruffy hair that you would see on a big foot/bear like creature. Something cheap preferably.

I had a friend who made a predator mask. He bought a mannequin head and covered it in modeling clay until he got it the shape he wanted it. He spent a lot of time working on it. I'm not sure what he did after that, but he made a mask out of that.
