Hi there,

I need to make a couple of purchases for computer parts, and was thinking about checking out U.S. prices.

Unfortunately, it's not like I have much to choose from. I live in Ottawa, so the two places I can go are Ogdenburg and Massena, according to the map - I don't have time to drive too far next week-end.

Are there any computer stores in these two places? Do they have websites?

*EDIT*
So it seems Syracuse is a better choice, but big-box computer stores like Staples/CompUSA are still expensive, compared to what I can find at smaller stores here...

Now I need to find someone from Syracuse who can tell me about the prices at mom-and-pop stores...

Not really... I'm looking for cumputer parts, like CPUs, memory and the like... Staples is suck.

You won't find much of that in either Massena or Ogdensburg.

Edit: Like it was previously stated ... go to Syracuse. Its only about 2 hours away from Ogdensburg.

Ottawa - Syracuse: 4 hrs drive... 8 hrs drive and 600 Km overall... that would take a full gas tank, maybe a little more, which translates at $40 CDN... this would better be good.

Are there independent computer stores with their own websites in Syracuse? I tried to google "Syracuse computer stores" and all I get is crappy hits...

how come you don't just want to order online? 'lots of deals going on and most of the time you can get free shipping. or won't they ship to Canada?

I've had customs charges slapped on me in the past, I absolutely loathe paying those... and also, some companies don't ship to Canada... maybe I need to open a P.O. Box in Ogdensburg and have stuff sent there... Hmm... that might be a good idea...

in my experience mom and pop stores are more expensive than the likes of BestBuy, CircuitCity or CompUSA.

that sounds like a great idea.

I'm from Syracuse, but I don't live there anymore (and haven't for 10 years). And I don't know about the computer shops there.

syracuse sucks ... trust me, i live here. 😛

although, watertown is far, far worse. i have a friend who's stationed at fort drum living in watertown. i've visited .. it sucks.

btw, there's a sam's club in watertown .. they sell some parts (graphics cards, dvd burners, hard drives)

btw, i've found that the "mom and pop" computer stores are far more expensive than best buy.
