Anyone here from or live in Little Rock, Arkansas?

Little Rock AFB is on my list for my next assignment, and I would like to get some impressions from people that either live there or used to live there. How is the area for dining -- good restaurants, good variety, etc.? How about shopping -- malls, computer/electronics stores, outdoors, camera shops? What is there in terms of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, or even diving (quarries, lakes)?

Anything else you can think of is great. We're looking forward to getting back to the US of A after being abroad for over 2.5 years, and I've heard the assignment is a good one (Instructor position). Thanks!

I was born and lived there until the age of 4 and usually go back every couple of years to visit family friends. It's basically got its nice areas and it's bad areas, like every other city I guess. It's not very dense so expect to do a lot of driving (with some fairly bad traffic). Depending on what you're used to, there is a fair amount of variety for a city of its size.

Since there are some 'mountains' around, there's plenty of hiking, camping, etc. to be done. The best thing to do (obviously) would be to give it a visit. You'll probably either like it or dislike it instantly, as it doesn't have much to hide.

Make sure to stop at Shorty Small's (the one on Rodney Parham, I think) for a meal. The place may look ready to fall down, but last time I went it was still great. ;)

Well, now you can pass time by touring the Clinton Library.

Could a red-blooded American wish for anything more than that?

Been there a few times TDY, like anywhere else, it's what you make of it. I have a good friend stationed there, engine troop, and he really likes it.

What instructor position? FTD? I am an engine instructor at Hurlburt Field.

It's in the 34th CTS, not sure exact duty title. It has nothing to do with engines. :)

Seeing as how I'm in Japan right now, that's a little far to "pop in" for a quick tour!

If you're going to be living there for a while, find a way.
