What is the scenery like? Does Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine have decent scenery? places to visit for a weekend, etc. etc?

thanks!

I live in NH. This area is the most scenic/beautiful location in the world during the Fall. No specific location is necessary. Just come to some of the less populated areas of NH during the Fall, and you will be amazed.

NH is the best state to live in.

Low crime, right next to a metropolitan area (Boston), clean air, mostly suburban, many cities within are rated "Best Cities to Live In", no tax, etc.

My mother's from Maine.

Awesome scenery, but a lot of forests. If you go up the coast, it's a great drive up highway 1. Check out Boston, swing by the state-run liquor stores in New Hampshire, and drive up the coast for some seafood. The rocky coastline is beautiful. You can go to Bar Harbor and check out the shops, check out Acadia National Park, and go whale watching. I don't advise visiting that area unless it's summer though. It's pretty chilly until June or later...

I was in Maine last July visiting family and it was in the low 70s....awesome weather for Summer. Nice cool nights.

Without a doubt. I've lived here my whole life, and I plan on keeping it that way.

I thought there was no Sales Tax in NH. I also heard that Property Tax there was astronomical.

I made it from Nashua to Comm Ave in about 45 mins w/o traffic. Rush hour you're looking at 2+ hours.

Not astronomical, but higher than MA. But property value is lower, so it kinda evens out. I would call the fees for car registration astronomical though. The money has to be made up somewhere.

Any of the beaches make good trips, just be prepared for traffic.

What about avoiding traffic? I'm in Jersey now, and hate it :) What about say... taking the train from Boston to Portland, Maine. Could I get anywhere decent from there without a car?

I have always taken a car. When I went to Hampton beach, trafffic was not horrible, but that was near rthe end of the summer. Traffic is worse going to Cape Cod.

As for train, sounds like a good idea. Public transportation, surprisingly, does take you to lots of places around here. It's if you want to deal with the cancer that is called the mbta.

My goal is to move to Boston, and if all goes as planned, eventually get rid of the car entirely, or just keep it somewhere and not drive it often :) I can get anywhere in Boston with public transportation, and weekend trips to New York or Maine are a train/plane away.

Just get a resident permit parking sticker and just park the car. You will not have to move it (except for street cleaning or if you park at a meter). Lots of people try to eliminate the car when coming to Boston. If you can take the T's service, it could work. If you ar ebothered by constant delays, unexpected missed stops, and constant crowding of college students, you will go back to a car in a heart beat.

LOL, as if the roadways and the drivers in Boston weren't bad enough:laugh: You take your life in your hands just crossing the street in Greater Boston. Unfortunately the worse drivers all drive the Buses for the MBTA

you speak truth. The mbta busses have taken my car mirror off two times.....

And yes, most people in this city cannot only not drive, but they cannot park for the life of them. It pains me to see a person have trouble parking in a sapce teh size of two car lengths.

Less traffic, but people can drive better in NY.
