Anyone here follow British football?

They are playing a local A-League Team. Last year they were pretty good and won their division, so all the good player moved up, and this year they are not very good. I am thinking Sunderland will absolutely dominate. Is Sunderland an English team, or a Scottish team based in Glasgow?

Sunderland is a team from the North East of England, they are in the 1st division over here (1 down from the top division, the Premiership). They have a group of fairly good players, but as this will be a pre-season game I would expect them to play quite a few reserve players so I doubt they'll dominate, certainly not as much as if you were playing a Premiership side like Aston Villa, Manchester United or Arsenal for instance.

The Scottish teams in Glasgow are Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic btw 🙂

Ok, so they are English now, but started in Glasgow?

No they were never in Glasgow, Sunderland is a City in the North East of England. Most footbal teams over here are named for the city/town they are based in.

The history of Sunderland AFC starts in 1879, in Glasgow, and ends, so far, in 2001 at the Sunderland Stadium Of Light. Whilst the journey from Scotland's second city may not be far, perhaps a mere 150 miles, the 122 year route has probably taken the Club's players, officials and fanatical support a million miles and beyond.

Football = Footie

Well anyone who knows who Sunderland is, will call it football.
Anyone who doesn't know who Sunderland is, will call it soccer.
So, for sake of folks who could help me answer my question, I used the word football instead of "soccer."

And it saved you from a scathing remark about calling the game by it's real name of football 😉 just ask Gurck what I'm like heh...
