Am going boating tomorrow and need a few questions. Is driving a boat the same as a car if you get stopped the driver gets the ticket? How does it work exact? Also what all needs to be done with the boat and what needs to be on the boat and what does everyone need.

Could someone help me out as I maybe the one driving and don't want a ticket.

If you are going to be the most informed and best equipped person the boat I would suggest you put off your water excursion until you truly know what you are doing.

Excellent advice. People drown easy and no a boat doesn't really work like a car.

I aint asking if it's like driving a car. I am asking does the driver get honor of paying the ticket like one does when driving a car? I know how to drive a boat. I just ain't 100% sure on what all needs to be done to the boat and what needs to be on the boat.

I do know everyone will have a life jacket on. Did I mention this will be a john boat and not a 100ft house boat?

Yes. The operator gets the ticket, although others in the craft can be cited for things as well. You should check your local conservation dept website. It should give you a list of requirements for legal operation. Some individual lakes/areas have their own requirements as well.

it would help if you stated if you are pulling out from a port in the ocean (my favorite kind of fishin) or just some lake or river ramp.
If you are pulling out from a dock port then there are driving lanes you have to stay in and a speed limit until you get out to sea.

Laws vary greatly from state to state, and also depend on the waterway upon which you will be boating. (Lake, river, ocean, etc.)

You could start here and look around.

IIRC, tickets for stuff like improper equipment go to the owner and things like BWI go to the driver.
Obviously, I don't know where you are going fishing, so YMMV.
