Anyone here fast?

I'm thinking about fasting a couple of days per month.

Anyone have any advice on what to eat before and after fasting and what fluids to take during the fast?

Do you notice any health benefits?

Don't drink beer and eat crap. That will cleanse your system. Eat lots of fruit, vegetables and water.

I'm half fast, does that count?

Seriously, I was on nothing but those diet shakes for quite a while and I lost a crapload of weight.
This was under a Doctor's supervision, but I cant imagine any problems if you only do it for a couple of days a month.

I don't eat any crap per se but we do ingest pesticides and and breath pollutants.

Fasting is not healthy for you. I don't fast, but I know people who do for religious reasons (bah, religion is so stupid). It wear's you down, and if it's a hot or humid day, you are dying to eat or drink something. There are zero health benefits to it because you will basically pig out before and after you fast.

ripped from another forum:

What are the benefits of fasting?

Weight loss is the most obvious result of fasting. But fasting can also break many food addictions, such as coffee, sweets, alcohol, smoking and other bad habits. Although some people may be attracted to fasting for weight maintenance alone, there are other, more vital benefits that result when one stops eating.

"During a fast:

The natural process of toxin excretion continues, while the influx of new toxins is reduced, This results in a reduction of total body toxicity.

The energy usually used for digestion is redirected to immune function, cell growth, and eliminatory processes.

The immune system?s workload is greatly reduced, and the digestive tract is spared any inflammation due to allergic reactions to food.

Due to a lowering of serum fats that thins the blood; tissue oxygenation is increased and white blood cells are moved more efficiently.

Fat-stored chemicals, such as pesticides and drugs, are released.

Physical awareness and sensitivity to diet and surroundings are increased.

Due to these effects of fasting, a fast can help you heal with greater speed,? cleanse your liver, kidneys, and colon,? purify your blood,? help you lose excess weight and water,? flush out toxins,. clear the eyes and tongue,? and cleanse the breath."

My mom fastes every so often but every monday she doesn;t eat any grains, only fruits and water, It keeps u displined and also helps u lose weight, as long as u are displined in what u eat the rest of the time.

I seriously doubt there's any benefit from fasting that you can't get from proper nutrition, exercise, and a good colonic..

Cleanse your system? Are you a moron?

"Cleanse your system" does sound like hippie New Age pseudo-scientific nonsense, doesn't it? They make it sound like we eat nothing but pollution and chemical waste, where in reality, a good set of healthy kidneys and proper nutrition will keep us going nicely.

I'm not so sure of that.

sometimes i only eat 1 meal a day!
I did that a couple times in college, but usually I find that two meals a day is perfect for me. That way, I'm hungry for both meals, instead of eating stuff that I don't even have an appetite for, as usually happens for me during lunch.
