A little project that I volunteered to take on for my mom and dad :) . I've got some negatives, but mostly just a bunch of prints - most in color, a few in black and white, and as far as age goes, even the newest aren't much younger than I am (27). Lots of them are in pretty good shape from what I can see, although some have taken on a pretty bad yellow or red color-cast. Here's what I'm doing so far:

A) As an attempt at a bit of future-proofing, I decided to scan the images at 16bpp (a.k.a. 48-bit color). Can't do much with them like this right now, but at least I've got the data if someone wants to take another crack at cleaning things up further down the line.

B) I've left the scanner 'corrections' all set to off - I'll fix colors and such in an image editor, like Paintshop Pro.

C) the 16bpp files are tiffs. Takes up more space, but I'm not too worried about that at this point. Once I make copies that are 8bpp, I'll probably save them as either tiffs or PNGs.

As far as tools go, I've got Paintshop Pro X2 and Noise Ninja to work with; if anybody knows of anything else that might come in handy, let me know :)
